When families feel informed, they feel connected — and when they feel connected, they trust the schools where their children learn and grow. That belief drives everything Vestavia Hills City Schools does when it comes to communication, and this year the results speak for themselves.
Our vision is to be the first and best source of information about our schools, because survey data from an independent, third-party agency shows that more than 9 out of 10 VHCS parents and employees trust the communication they receive from VHCS, a strong foundation that we are committed to building on.
ParentSquare, our unified communications platform, has been central to that effort. Since the start of the school year, VHCS schools have generated more than 11,400 posts, 127,832 direct messages, and 9,401 Virtual Phone calls through the ParentSquare platform. District social media has also seen remarkable growth, surpassing 8.55 million views and 160,000 interactions, a 101% year-over-year increase.
A 2024-25 communications audit from a national public relations organization identified clear priorities: a unified strategic communication plan, consistent branding and messaging, and stronger feedback loops between schools and families. Each school now develops its own communication plan aligned to those district goals. We hope you have seen improved communication from your child’s school over the course of this school year.
Looking ahead, VHCS will work to continue expanding access to information and resources online for parents, deepen community partnerships, and continue investing in communication professional development for teachers and staff — because strong communication isn't a one-time effort, it's a long-term commitment.
